| | WOW: The New Drug | | So I have a roommate that plays WoW (World of Warcraft). He's recently become a Raid Team-Leader for two of the Raid teams for his guild. As he was talking about it he remarked on how "hard it is to find intelligent, dedicated people who can make scheduled time for a Raid who know what they're doing and are not kids." The remark itself isn't all that surprising, but it was the tone of frustration he had that made me think about all the other people I've known that play WoW constantly and how they've let a game (yes, it's just a game) start to consume their personal lives. It's like a drug; only in an electronic and on-line format. So I ask you: what experiences do you have with WoW? Do you think it's akin to a narcotic or simply a game that is enjoyable to play. Don't get me wrong: Blizzard made an excellent game that I found myself playing for a while; but it's the level of commitment that some people have and worse: expect from others to playing that game that concerns me. | |
