| | Star Wars and Psychology | | A few evenings ago, some friends and I decided to watch one of the Star Wars films, Return of the Sith. This film got me thinking about a concept that is key to much of the hypnotherapy that I do, and is an excellent example of how not to lead one's life.Much of what makes the Star Wars story so alluring is the puzzling change that occurs in Anakin Skywalker. How is it that a man can turn from supremely good to the embodiment of evil? We're led to love Anakin the Jedi and hate the same man, only a few days later. It is both puzzling and troubling. What is even more puzzling (and perhaps troubling) is that, on the surface, it seems that Anakin's love for Padmae is what leads him, ultimately, to the dark side.This is an excellent example of the way that Jung claims that the human shadow works. The shadow, according to Jung, is a huge portion of our personality that we disown. We disavow it, and lock it away. Once it is locked away, it becomes destructive. We can see this in many ways: a person who denies something about themselves turns to self-destructive behaviors such as excessive drinking, or even worse, becomes violent. | | Do you prefer the Star Wars Prequel trilogy or the Original Trilogy? | | I was having this discussion with a friend of mine, and he said that he thought that the origional trilogy was better than the prequel trilogy. While I prefer the prequel trilogy, as the graphics are better, the lightsaber battles are immense. You wouldn't have the original trilogy in terms of storyline without the prequel trilogy. Now I'm wondering what everyone else thinks. | |
| | | Star Wars-Are You A Fan or A Hater | | Personally,I love the movies,the originals more than the prequels,and SpikeTV shows the Original trilogy simply because it never fails to garner great ratings.
The first of the saga I saw was Return Of The Jedi,which to some would be a point of futility because it's the LAST movie,but it introduced me to a whole new world,one I have been a fan of since,The Star Wars Universe.
People will bash and try to ruin it for me by bad-mouthing the puppetry or the stiff acting.I DON'T CARE,the movies bring so much imagination to life.
There are fans and then there are fanboys.....I'm of the first group,Im a fan but I'm not a rabid fanatic,I don't study every aspect of the the film,I just enjoy the films,because they are pure escapism.I don't take it that seriously because I know its just a series of movies,and great ones at that.
Family Guy's 'Blue Harvest' kind o kicked the franchise in the nuts by making Obi-Wan to be played by the neighborhoo pervert,Herbert,but other than that it was still an enjoyable homage to Lucas.
And I loved Robot Chicken's Star Wars Specials.I can watch them over and over again LOLI will never stop being a fan,and I can watch the movies again and again... | |
